No, drinking water won’t hydrate your skin. Your body will be hydrated, which is good, and you’ll probably pee a lot. But it won’t do anything for your skin, lets get that out the gate. Myth busted. What will actually hydrate your skin? Good ol’ fashioned skincare! Here are a few tips, and a plug or three.
During winter, our skin is very demanding, possibly at its most dull too. Everything you use, make sure it adds hydration, or at least won’t be drying.
- THROW OUT THE CLAY MASKS
Clay masks make us feel like they’re working cause they feel tingly, our skin dries up, etc. But goodness, I wish the spell would break already. Clay masks, let my people go! Not that any other time I would recommend them to anyone, but in winter, they are even worse. If you do want to feel luxurious and have a rom-com moment with a mask on, glass in hand, reading a book, pretending you live in a penthouse in Upper East Side, go for sheet masks like Benton Aloe Soothing Mask
2. NO SKINCARE ROUTINE IS COMPLETE WITHOUT A HYDRATING SERUM
When it comes to hydrating serums, you can’t go wrong with a hyaluronic acid serum. A hydration powerhouse. What these do is lock make sure your skin doesn’t look dull and lifeless in winter. Moisturiser will prevent your skin from looking dry, but a hydrating serum will give it life cause it plumps up your skin. Some of our faves on Kutowa are The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Supercharged Booster. Other serums that are also hydrating on top of their primary functions: The Ordinary “Buffet”. The Ordinary Buffet is quite literally what it says: targets multiple things, and also contains multiple hydration complexes. Quite the underrated hydration star and worth the money, like the avengers of serums.
3. STAY ON THE LOOKOUT FOR HYDRATING MOISTURISERS
At any time of the year, stay away from any mattifying face cream. But in winter, go a bit extra with it and use moisturizers with extra hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Moisturisers like CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion a cult favourite and with good reason. And a Kutowa classic Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
