We all want healthy glowing skin, but what does it mean to have healthy skin? Genetics will also play a role in what healthy skin looks like on everyone. For example, large pores are usually genetic, so if you genetically have large pores, your version of healthy skin won’t look like porcelain smooth skin.
It is important to understand that healthy skin goes beyond just using fancy skincare and cult products, no matter how good products like The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 30ml are, having healthy skin habits is even more important, otherwise, you won’t appreciate what good skin care can do.
Wash Your Face Twice daily
Yes, even on days you had a long day and just want to hit the pillow and wake up at 11am the next day. This is a very basic thing, so basic that we sometimes take for granted the difference it makes. So many things come in contact with your face, germs, dirt, dust and all sorts of things. Going to bed without cleansing means you allow these things to settle on your skin and clog your pores.
Avoid cleansers that promise a squeaky clean feel
Your skin does not need to feel squeaky clean to be clean. If you cleanse and your skin feels tight, then it is excessively dry. Any product that makes claims of leaving your skin squeaky clean is a red flag. Rather, go for mild cleansers like Eucerin DermoPurifyer Cleansing Gel, a cleanser that leaves skin feeling clean without drying it out.
DON’T SKIP SUNSCREEN
The gospel of wearing sunscreen can never be stressed enough. Please wear sunscreen. Melanin doesn’t make your skin invulnerable to the sun sis, the sun is not your mate. Wear sunscreen DAILY and you two can show off your youthful skin in your 40s from the benefits of wearing sunscreen. The benefit of sunscreen goes beyond just hyperpigmentation and dark marks, the sun ages us and sunscreen helps the skin resist and therefore somewhat prevent premature aging. Try some of our sunscreens Nivea Sun Protect & Sensitive Sun Spray SPF50
No fancy products here, even just getting in the habit of keeping clean pillows makes a difference. Wrap your hair in a clean scarf when sleeping. Washing your face before sleeping also works together with using clean pillows. Pro tip: do your skincare routine: Eucerin DermoPurifyer Cleansing Gel, The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and Eucerin DermoPurifyer Adjunctive Soothing Cream at least 30 minutes before bed, this allows the products to absorb fully into your skin without all ending up on your pillow.
Be careful with direct acids
Direct acids like The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% are the new thing for a lot of us in skincare. They were already there but it’s only recently where we have access to so many and brands are making them the main focus in their skincare lines. In all the excitement, we should be careful when using them, some could be too harsh for other skin types, including individual allergic reactions, counteractions with other skincare ingredients etc. In another post, I will go deeper into how to use direct acids and when to add them to a skincare routine. MOST IMPORTANTLY: IF YOU USE DIRECT ACIDS, YOU MUST NEVER SKIN SUNSCREEN.
